If you’re having trouble with your list and need encouragement, say that! That’s understandable. We want new classics readers to join us, so there’s nothing wrong with arriving to this thread with all of the newness showing!

Hi! I’m making slower progress than I had hoped. So far I’ve read four titles from my list and written about three of them. I did take a detour to read The Voyage Out and A Haunted House and Other Stories for the #Woolfalong, which weren’t on my Classics Club list but were definitely worth reading.
Right now I’m reading plays and poetry by Aphra Behn, the first English woman to earn a living as a writer.

My list is languishing, but I have read two wonderful classics this month – Nevil Shute’s On the Beach and Margaret Kennedy’s The Ladies of Lyndon.

I haven’t been making much progress with my list lately, but I’m currently reading Lark Rise to Candleford (my Spin book) and I’m really enjoying it so far.

And so now I’ve started The Count of Monte Cristo (just a bit shorter thean W&P). I hadn’t thought about this until I started reading CofMC, that it follows historically very shortly after W&P and again concerns, though to a much lesser degree, the fates and actions of Napoleon.

I’ve decided to devote my summer to catching up on and expanding my philosophy studies. My philosophy favorite so far is Pensees by Pascal so I may re-read that as well as many others. There are probably too many books on my list to finish in one summer, but I am feeling ambitious. Right now I am reading Leviathan by Thomas Hobbes. I’m so struggling with my list… but I’m also just struggling with finding what to read in general. You know when you WANT to read something but nothing sounds good and nothing is grabbing you in? I think I need to pick a book from my list and make myself read it – just to get back into the habit.

I just finished Hemingway’s A Farewell to Arms. I wasn’t quite sure about the book since I struggled with The Sun Also Rises last summer, but I really really liked this one. I feel like I will have to let it percolate a bit so it may be a while before I post about it.
I’m also listening to To Kill a Mockingbird. It is the perfect classic summer novel in my opinion. I’m enjoying the audio.
Next up : The Winter of Our Discontent by John Steinbeck

Hi! I’m Holly, the blogger behind the blog Nut Free Nerd. 🙂 Lately I’ve read quite a few classics, but not many of them are on my classics club list. I guess this doesn’t really matter, so long as I’m enjoying them? My most recent classic was The Scarlet Letter, which I really enjoyed. The only other thing by Nathaniel Hawthorne I had read prior to this was a short story, so I didn’t really know what to expect going into it. But it was fantastic!! How’s everyone else’s progress been going?
