Hello, Clubbers!
It’s time for another Classics Club Spin! What is the spin?
It’s easy. At your blog, before next Sunday 22nd December 2019, create a post that lists twenty books of your choice that remain “to be read” on your Classics Club list.
This is your Spin List.
You have to read one of these twenty books by the end of the spin period.
Try to challenge yourself. For example, you could list five Classics Club books you have been putting off, five you can’t WAIT to read, five you are neutral about, and five free choice (favourite author, re-reads, ancients, non-fiction, books in translation — whatever you choose.)
On Sunday 22nd December, we’ll post a number from 1 through 20. The challenge is to read whatever book falls under that number on your Spin List by 31st January, 2020.
That’s six weeks folks!
So why not challenge yourself with some of the bigger, thicker, chunkier books on your CC List?
We’ll check in here on the 31st January to see who made it the whole way and finished their spin book!
What’s Next?
- Go to your blog.
- Pick twenty books that you’ve got left to read from your Classics Club List.
- Post that list, numbered 1-20, on your blog before Sunday 22nd December.
- We’ll announce a number from 1-20.
- Read that book by 31st January 2020.
This is meant to be a fun, social way to read another book from your classics club list. We’re very relaxed about how you set it up, we simply want you to read more classics!
Sometime this week, at your blog, you might post something like:
My Book Spin List for the Classics Club –
- Jane Eyre
- The Inferno
- Picnic at Hanging Rock
- Oliver Twist
- Clarissa
- Gone With the Wind
- Don Quixote
- Testament of Youth
- Richard III
- The Iliad
- Jude the Obscure
- I Know Why the Caged Bird Sings
- The Master and Margarita
- Dracula
- The Home and the World
- Sense & Sensibility
- Madame Bovary
- The Diary of Anne Frank
- Antigone
- The Tale of Genji
(Obviously, YOU choose what books YOU want to list, in what order.)
Next Sunday?
We will announce a number from 1 through 20. When we announce it, go to your Spin list. Find that number, read (and hopefully, review) the book listed for that number by 31st January 2020.
So, if (for example) we announce #14, and if the above list was your Spin List, you’d have to read Dracula.
The prize, of course, is the reading experience 🙂
When we announce the number next week, come back and tell us your spin title.

I see we have Willa Cather in common, Brona, though not the same novel. Good luck!

I’m in! I don’t have 20 books left on my list so I’m cheating a bit for this spin. I’m sure no-one will mind too much: https://warmdayswillnevercease.wordpress.com/2019/12/16/classics-club-spin-22/

Here’s my list – I didn’t complete the last spin, so am determined to do it this time. I have some big ones on my list because I’m off work for most of January so will have some time to get into them.

I started to, but then stopped. I already have a bunch of reading commitments for Jan/Feb and think it would put me over the edge. I am going to commit to reading one of the short books on my list though.

I was just wishing there would be a spin a couple of days ago and thinking it would not happen until 2020. I will go do a list today.

Took out my biggest books for reasons. Don’t like starting the year with ginormous reads being one of those reasons.

Like you, I will avoid the chunkier classics this time, bit that’s because I’m 3/4’s of the way through Moby-Dick for my slow read finishing in Feb. I will need something slimmer and lighter to fit in round the edges 🙂

Yep. I think I’m planning on Anna Karenina and Don Quixote as slow reads next year. Maybe 20 minutes a day. Calculations put me at just under six months for both books. Which would leave Vanity Fair, East of Eden, and Martin Chuzzlewit for the following year to finish up. Plus all the shorter books I have.

Fun idea! I’m reading Don Quixote right now. I’m not sure I’m going to finish him by Christmas. He’s a big, interesting, challenging book to read. I think I’ll pass on this spin. lol. Merry Christmas.
