  1. I read a very slim book, really a long short story, called “Santal” (1921) by Ronald Firbank. I’ve read that he was influential on many British writers, but the name is new to me. I’m still musing on what I think about “Santal”, but hope to review it soon. Currently reading “Red Pottage” (1899) by Mary Cholmondeley. Good story!

  2. I just started reading The Outsiders by S.E. Hinton. I’m embarrassed to admit I’ve never read it — but I saw a Penguin Classics edition of it and decided to grab it and take the plunge, at last.

  3. I’m in the middle of The Dain Curse by Dashiell Hammett at the moment and thoroughly enjoying it despite some pretty outdated attitudes and language. Next classic will be Heart of Darkness by Joseph Conrad very soon, and then in a few weeks, Herland by Charlotte Perkins Gilman – one I’m not at all sure I’ll enjoy. But there’s only one way to find out…
