A Note and First Ever “The Classics Club Readathon”

Hello everyone!

Allie here to talk some things over with you, as well as give you some exciting information about things coming up with the Club.

You may have noticed that things have been a little quiet around here…for many of the moderators, the beginning of September brought a lot of challenges in our personal lives-from new jobs, to school, and more. We have been here, quietly adding in review links when we get a spare moment. Sometimes that might take a few days. Please be patient with us as we try to maintain a balance between our homes, work, our personal blogs, and our roles here. I think I can speak for all of us when I say that we love this space! We want it to thrive!

Classics Club Readathon January 2013On that note, I wanted to give you a head’s up that we are going to be undertaking a 24-hour readathon in the beginning of January to jump-start the new year! The first ever “The Classics Club Readathon” will be taking place on January 5th, 2013. We wanted to pick a date that would help ring in the new year and all that excitement of tackling reading lists and conquering classics.

We will be following the same timezone rules as the 24-Hour Readathon, with a kick-off post debuting at 8am EST here on the blog. We will be reading for 24 hours after that! We’re hoping this will inspire you to knock a classic or two off your challenge list!

To sign up, fill in the Mister Linky below. We’d appreciate it if you spread the word (through a post on your blog or on twitter) so we can get as many participants as possible! I look forward to reading with you on the 5th!

Allie

  1. I’d love to participate, but this is on the worst possible day for me. Tomorrow is my last day with my family before I go back to school for the spring semester, and I don’t think they would appreciate it if I spent the whole time reading. Good luck to those participating!

  2. I’m on page 76 of 816 of Ulysses: at 21 pages per hour it will take me 35 hours to read the rest. So even if I do the 24 hour readathon tomorrow I will not be finished by Sunday. I would have to read at least 10 hours today. Oh Well, I’m going to give it go anyway

  3. I won’t be able to read for the whole 24-hours, but I am excited to kick-off my 2013 classics reading with a solid chunk of the day dedicated to it. I’m in!

  4. It’s a midnight start in Sydney – I suspect I may miss a few hours in the wee hours of the morning! I still can’t decide what to read either!! I really am in holiday mode 🙂

  5. Happy to join in on the readathon this weekend. Great idea. Now, to figure out what to read. Moby Dick, for sure if I don’t get caught up to the Moby Dick Big Read event by then.

  6. I love to join this time. It sounds like a great opportunity to read a couple great classics from my list which has been a challenge until now. But this time I am hoping to read a one or two and try to submit at a review.

  7. I’m happy that our extended family holiday party is Jan. 5th, but sad to be missing this read-a-thon. Perhaps I can get a few hours in early in the day.

  8. Sooooooo excited!!!! I couldn’t participate in the most recent 24 Hour Readathon, but I am excited for this one!!! The only caveat: We’re moving at some point, maybe that weekend, so hopefully not on the 5th! I would love to knock out a few of my classics this way!!!
