  1. Interesting. I got
Suttner, Bertha von “Die Waffen nieder!” (Down with Weapons! or Lay Down Your Arms!) – 1889
which I had just received as a present from a friend. She’ll be happy that I read it so quickly.

  2. Adam Bede for me and a buddy read with Sue @Me My Shelf & I.
Perfect. I haven’t read any George Eliot for nearly two decades, therefore delighted to be given a gentle push into priortising it over my summer holiday break.

      1. There’s a George Eliot readalong happening next year & I was planning to join in for the 2 unread ones on my bookshelves. I’d love to reread Middlemarch too but not sure I can fit it in. I’ll see how I feel when it’s time comes around in the readalong schedule.

    1. I bought a book with his novellas visiting Baker Street in London. I must admit I was positively surprised by them. I always thought them stiff and boring, but they were far from it. This one was included as well.

Just to let you know that I have changed my blog to a new provider. New address is: https://www.thecontentreader.com

    1. I read my first Cather last spin, Death Comes to the Archbishop. I was so much looking forward to reading her, but was dissapointed. A few people recommended Oh Antonia (I think). I am looking forward to see what you think about this one.

    1. This book has been on my radar for years and years. I don’t care much for D.H. Lawrence, that’s why I haven’t read it yet, but I look forward to reading your thoughts on it when you finish!

      1. Thank you Robin. I have my doubts, but will keep an open mind. Will let you know what I think, if I finish it. I tend to leave books I don’t like these days. There are so many good books to read so I don’t want to waste my time with books I don’t like.
I have not read anything by Lawrence, only seen Lady Chatterly’s Lover, which I also find rather boring.

    2. I tried to leave a comment on your blog & had problems that I don’t have time to work out now, so have copied it here….

My first reaction is YIKES! He’s not my favourite author either. We had to read Sons and Lovers at school – ughhh!!

      Good luck 🙂

      1. Yes, I agree, but hope I will be able to go through it. However, these days I don’t finish a book if I don’t like it. There are so many good books, so why waste your time with those you don’t like.

I hope you can register at my blog. You can use Googles/Facebook or register. Hope to see you there when you have time.

    3. I loved DH Lawrence in my teens but have always felt my adult self might not be so keen. However I re-read Sons and Lovers recently and found I still love it! Hope you enjoy this one.

    1. Lucky you, an excellent novel and my favourite by Anne Brontë. I think it is even my second favourite Brontë novel. Wuthering Heights always comes first.

    1. I read it many years ago. I am Swedish so Selma Lagerlöf is one of our most famous authors. I intend to re-read it, since I don’t really remember it. I think you could say she writes a little bit of magic realism. Not to compare to Garcia-Marquez though. I am looking forward to read what you think about it.

        1. No, don’t take me literally on this one. She writes in a fairy tale kind of style, based on old folktales. She is really good and well worth a read.
