Happy July everyone & welcome to this month’s update post! How was everyone’s June? I had a very productive reading month and ended up switching jobs to a bigger library in my area, so super exciting. Also, I was able to turn in my library’s summer reading form. As a prize, I got a library mug and entry into the cash prize drawing. Woot! Are you guys participating in any summer reading programs?

I thought a few of you might be amused by this rant about the classics one is forced to read in high school:

In June I discovered that I had completely missed out on my first goal (where did those 5 years go!?) So I revamped my lost and have a new goal now. With what’s going on in my life I plan to launch back into more of my classics reading, and more involvement in this community. ❤

In the first paragraph, talking about a summer reading program at your library, I thought they were for kids. When I went to return books yesterday, I saw a flyer for the end of the year celebration for their summer reading program (all ages). I didn’t know they had them for adults, so next year I’ll keep my eye out for that. Congratulations on a good reading summer!

I didn’t quite make my goal of 50 books in five years, but I still feel I accomplished a lot. And this month I finished Don Quixote, so i’m happy about that. The list will go on but I won’t try for any particular due dates.

Congrats on your fun new job, Margaret! I’m reading a novel by Anthony Trollope — The Claverings. I love Trollope! And I’m reading some medieval German stories by Hartmann von Aue.

At the beginning of the year I decided to try to finish my CC list a few months early. I’m a month behind on that accelerated schedule, but I’m optimistic I can still make it. I’ve a BUNCH of reviews I’ve yet to link up at the site, though. Just finished Farewell to Arms and Grapes of Wrath; next is Catch 22. (I’m in my American set. :))

I’ve been reading a few modern classics, though sadly none of them are on my official list! Children’s classics have dominated: The Little Grey Men’ by ‘BB’ (the 1940s) and Joan Aiken’s Midnight is a Place (1970s), for example, but also Vita Sackville-West’s No Signposts in the Sea (1960s) and Robertson Davies’ The Manticore (the 1970s). So, a mixed bag.

I don’t think I qualify for the Wall of Honour having missed my “deadline” to complete my list by a long way. Never kind, I’m just five away from the end now. Then I can start all over again:)

Oh dear, I missed the announcement last month that I was Clubber of the Month. I have been getting ready for surgery (lots of appointments) and having surgery and now recovering (happily), so a lot has passed me by. Thanks very much. I am loving being a member, although I am behind on reading classics (and reviewing). Hope to catch up in the 2nd part of this year.
