I ended up with a book that it seems isn’t that well known – Diary of a Nobody by George and Wheedon Grossmith. It’s a comic novel seen as the fore-runner to novels like Bridget Jones’ Diary lets hope it really is funny. https://bookertalk.com/2017/03/12/grossmith/

I never got around to posting my list but I did make one before the number was drawn. I’ll be reading The Good Companions by J B Priestley. It will be unknown territory; I know very little about the book and it will be my first Priestley. I’m hoping for a nice surprise!

Wives and Daughters by Elizabeth Gaskell. I’m looking forward to reading it as the only other book of hers I’ve read is Cranford, which I liked.

My book will be Frankenstein, by Mary Shelly. Somehow I’ve never read that book over the years, so guess that is going to change this spring!

Yikes – Out of Africa! One of the ones I’ve been dreading, I’ve heard it’s difficult to read.
Oh well, that’s why I put it on the spin, I guess, to encourage me to read it….

Cranford by Elizabeth Gaskell! I think it’s probably the shortest book on my list, which is great because I really wanted to participate but I’m going to be short on time. Win!

Mr Books struggled through the language style of the Man in the High Tower…but I believe that your book is the one they based the Blade Runner movie on, so it has the potential to be good.

Lorna Doone by RD Blackmore! I’ve been putting off reading this one for years because my Dad always said it was his favourite book, so I’ll feel horribly disloyal if I don’t like it. So hopefully I’ll love it!

I hope you do enjoy it 🙂 I have Call of the Wild on my list for the very same reason: it was my Dad’s favourite book as a boy. He tried and failed to get me to read it when I was young; I feel I should try it but after so many years I’d hate for it to be an anti-climax.

Tales of the South Pacific by James A Michener. This is his first novel and a Pulitzer prize winner, published in 1947. I always feel a bit disappointed with the book I get on the SPIN. I am not sure why. I placed it on the list. Isn’t that silly? Anyway. I look forward to reading this author again.
