Happy Anniversary to The Classics Club! Five Years Strong!!

The Club was founded five years ago today.

Happy Birthday to The Classics Club, founded five years ago today.

For many of us, this is the last year of the challenge. Who is still with us? How many books do you have left to read?

How long have you been with us, and what is your favorite memory from the club so far?

If you could do it again, would you still join us?

Thanks sincerely for a great five years, everyone.

  1. Can’t believe it’s been five years already. I just finished my list. Still deciding whether to make another and do it all again. Participating has been really rewarding for me!

  2. Happy 5th Anniversary and thank you for all the work you do to keep the club going! I joined in April 2012, have read 47 classics, and hope to read 3 more before my 5th anniversary next month. Will start a new list after that 🙂

  3. This is my last year for my first (frequently edited) list. I’m hoping I can finish and then start a (more reasonable) list for the next five years, hopefully with more world classics.

    1. That’s a nice goal. A lot of folks have edites to include a broader range of works -other times & places-, and that’s fantastic!

  4. Congratulations! It’s tough, and I’m not sure I’m even going to get to the end with all the competing pressures. But the Club was a great idea.

  6. Happy Anniversary…and many thanks for this wonderful forum. I finished my first round of 50 well ahead of schedule, and so I’ve started a second, this time 75. 74 to goo woot woot! Member since May 2014. I’d definitely join again because of all the great connections it’s provided to other classics lovers. Best memory: The 50 question CC Club Survey. The mods really should make it a condition of joining, because many members have not taken it. Me, I took it twice, because ya know…it’s a lot of fun. (pokes around the site a bit, looking for the link). Ahhh….here it is: https://theclassicsclubblog.wordpress.com/2014/11/09/the-classics-club-50-question-survey/

  7. Happy anniversary !!
I joined in August 2012, so I still have 6 mnths to go – although I have 44 books still to read from my list of 110 classics. I’ve also had to start a 2nd list to keep track of all my more recent classic additions.

As you probably already know I love the cc spins, but I also really enjoyed some of the readalongs that happened earlier in the piece (I’m thinking of the Their Eyes Were Watching God in particular).

I’m also celebrating my 1000th post today 🙂

  8. I have been a member for three years and am almost done with my first list. I have only six books left to read, so I should be finished this year, as I am six months behind on my reviews. I already have a new list picked out! Congratulations on the anniversary!

  9. Happy anniversary! My 5 years goes until February 2018, so just about one year left. I still have a lot of books left and am not sure if I will make it. I’ve revamped my list several times and it’s most recent reinvention reflects my decision to focus on classic children’s books. With that shift in focus, since that is mainly what I am most interested in reading these days, I do still have a decent shot of finishing (no War & Peace on my list!), but it will definitely still be a challenge! I would definitely join again — and probably will join again with a new list once this first 5 years is up, regardless of if I hit 50 or not — hope you guys are sticking around! 🙂

  10. Happy anniversary! I’m a relative newbie so still just starting out on my list really, but enjoying the whole thing. Thanks to you guys for the effort you put in to make it work so well… 🙂

  11. Happy anniversary! I started my book challenge almost five years ago as well but somehow the list keeps changing and growing with new titles. I’ve read many books from the list but it feels like there is no end. The best part is I truly enjoy being part of the Classics Club and hope that it keeps going for a long time. I’m planning to start a new list when deadline is near, so I hope that you be around for while. 🙂

  12. Happy Anniversary! Wow–five years already. I almost can’t believe it. If I had been better behaved, I would be finishing up my first list right about now, but alas I didn’t read more than about 15 or so titles, so I still had >100 left. So in January I just decided to “restart” and rolled most of the unread titles into a newer, longer list. So yes, I’d do this again! I’m just going to call it a 10-year plan this time around. 🙂 I also love the Spins–they’ve always been a good way to prompt to pick something up I might not otherwise grab just yet.

  13. Joyeux Anniversaire! Funny, I thought you were much older, lol. I just joined last year, and have red so far 14/50 titles, plus 2 other classics that were not on my list!
I plan to do another cycle when I’m done with this one, God willing

  14. I just started last summer, so I have most of my list to still go through. I’m glad I joined, as it is easy to focus on new releases when blogging. Thanks for keeping the love for Classic alive! Happy Anniversary! 🎁

  15. No. I thought five years was a guideline not a rule. I keep adding books to my list so 50 titles has grown to a list 80 books, of those I have read 35. If I had stuck with my original list, I’d only have 15 left to go. But i read the fabulous reviews of other CC reviewers and how can i not add those books to my list, too?

My favorite thing about CC are the SPINS. I adore them. They are perfect. There is an element of surprise…what book will I be reading next? There is a timeline…6 weeks, no slouching allowed! And the team provides an incentive to finish the book on time and to write a good review for it. Love the SPINS. (Can’t wait for Friday!)

  16. Happy Anniversary! I’ve started my reading journey 3 years ago, and I would absolutely join again! Since my list keeps changing and growing, I’m not exactly getting any closer to finishing my list, but I’ll keep trying. 🙂

  17. Well done for 5 years running!! Thank goodness you are here still because I haven’t finished my challenge yet and had sabbatical from reading for 3 years. lol
