Many years later, as he faced the firing squad, Colonel Aureliano Buendia was to remember that distant afternoon when his father took him to discover ice.

I would like to reread A Christmas Carol in the week before Christmas. Have just started putting together a very simple, easy readalong post if anyone would like to read it with me (actually all I’ve done is create a badge so far…one thing at a time!)
But if you’d like to join in let me know here http://bronasbooks.blogspot.com.au/2014/12/its-monday_8.html for now.
Merry Christmas

Definitely a classic! And definitely wonderful 🙂
There’s a wonderful old B&W movie with Sydney Greenstreet & Claude Raines – also well worth the watch.

I didn’t know that there was an older movie! I heard of a new one that wasn’t very good but now I’ll have to go looking for this other one. 🙂

I was hesitant to look at this thread because I didn’t want to be tempted, but no temptation here. I’ve read both of these and heartily enjoyed each one!

This week I read Jack London’s To Build a Fire, a short story. I listened to the audio and watched the film. Beautifully done. There is something about being stranded in the snow that is so frightening and this story really hits.

I’m reading Le Morte D’Arthur by Malory–on the home stretch! 150 pages to go!
And Tristram Shandy, which is fun as long as you don’t expect to get anywhere.

Good morning everyone! Right now I’m reading Tess of the d’Ubervilles by Thomas Hardey, which goes along with this month’s Victorian theme. I didn’t really care for the last Victorian book I read but this one is much better.
