I made it ahead of schedule – which is highly unusual for me. My spin book was A Room with a View by E. M Forster. Enjoyable though no as good as his later works IMHO

My Spin book is The Trumpeter of Krakow by Eric Kelly. It’s a Newbery award winning children’s book, so may be a slightly easier read than some of the others on my list. It’s been on my shelf since I went to Krakow a few years ago, so I’m looking forward to it.

For my first spin, I’ve got Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe! It was in my ‘random’ section and is one that I added to my list after the many, many references to it in Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone so I’m interested to see what it’s like.

I got He Knew He Was Right by Anthony Trollope. It’s 864 pages which is by far the longest book on my Spin list, but I’ve owned it for almost five years — this will sort of force me to read it.

My book is Zamyatin’s We. I’ve read a number of utopian/dystopian fiction, but never this one. I’m looking forward to it.

I read that years ago — will be very interested to know what you think! After reading what other people are reading, I’m starting to aspire to re-reading some of the influential books from my past, and the dystopian classics are definitely in that category.

I got The Professor’s House which is 1-short; 2-already on my shelf; and 3-by Willa Cather. I’m happy.

Well, I got the book I was least hoping to get: The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton. The good news is that it is supposed to be an excellent book so hopefully my feeling of dread will quickly fade. The bad news is that, because of my now very heavy reading schedule, I won’t be able to talk to my family for the next month, because I’ll be marathon-reading. 😉

Emma by Jane Austen. I read this in an Austen class in 2003 and I *hated* it. I hope to enjoy it this time around. Emma annoys the crap outta me!

You might find it interesting to watch the movie “Clueless” before you read Emma. I found that watching it helped me see the humor more clearly in Emma.

The Tempest! I think it’s been a good 10 years since I’ve read a Shakespeare play. And I think it’s the only book on my list that I don’t own. LOL!! Looking forward to it though.

Oooh–I can’t wait to read that one sometime! After reading Brave New World by Aldous Huxley in December and reading through all the references–and hearing about The Tempest from my literature teacher–I’ve looked forward to reading it 🙂

Number 20 is. . . . The Blind Assasin. Which I picked up three months ago and got about 25 pages into before I put it down again and didn’t pick it back up. . . so I guess I’m hesitant, but willing to give it another shot!

Stick with it. I took a bit to get into it but it is wonderful. Great book. You just need a chunk of uninterrupted time to get into it.

It’s a slow read and not my favourite Atwood, but it was worth the effort.
