We promised you a spin number this morning, and here it is! Your Spin Number is –
20.
If you joined the game last week, find number 20 on your Spin List! That’s the title you are challenged to read by April 2, 2014. We’ll toss a post up on April 2 to see who completed the game.
As always, the prize is the reading experience. Details here.
In case anyone asks — it would be awesome if everyone posted about their Spin book on April 2. But that’s not mandatory or anything. If you want to, though, have at it! 🙂
Check in below if you played. What’s your #20 title? Are you glad, hesitant, excited about your title? Do tell!

I made it ahead of schedule – which is highly unusual for me. My spin book was A Room with a View by E. M Forster. Enjoyable though no as good as his later works IMHO

I got Greenery Street by Denis Mackail. It should be easy and good. I’m really glad I didn’t get The Iliad just yet!

Just looked that up — think it’s going on my next list!

I got Little Women. I haven’t read this book since junior high. Looking forward to it.

My Spin book is The Trumpeter of Krakow by Eric Kelly. It’s a Newbery award winning children’s book, so may be a slightly easier read than some of the others on my list. It’s been on my shelf since I went to Krakow a few years ago, so I’m looking forward to it.

I read this book a while ago and loved it. Rhys was a genius with atmosphere.

For my first spin, I’ve got Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe! It was in my ‘random’ section and is one that I added to my list after the many, many references to it in Wilkie Collins’ The Moonstone so I’m interested to see what it’s like.

I got He Knew He Was Right by Anthony Trollope. It’s 864 pages which is by far the longest book on my Spin list, but I’ve owned it for almost five years — this will sort of force me to read it.

My #20 is Graham Greene’s The Heart of the Matter. I loved The Power and the Glory and hope to like this, too.

My book is Zamyatin’s We. I’ve read a number of utopian/dystopian fiction, but never this one. I’m looking forward to it.

I read that years ago — will be very interested to know what you think! After reading what other people are reading, I’m starting to aspire to re-reading some of the influential books from my past, and the dystopian classics are definitely in that category.

Oo, I just read that! It is weird, and interesting. It’s a strange experience to read the grand-daddy book of dystopia.

I got The Professor’s House which is 1-short; 2-already on my shelf; and 3-by Willa Cather. I’m happy.

Plethora of Books and I will be reading The Odyssey!
For me it is a slight cheat – I started it with Allie’s readalong last but didn’t finish.

Well, I got the book I was least hoping to get: The Seven Storey Mountain by Thomas Merton. The good news is that it is supposed to be an excellent book so hopefully my feeling of dread will quickly fade. The bad news is that, because of my now very heavy reading schedule, I won’t be able to talk to my family for the next month, because I’ll be marathon-reading. 😉
In any case, here is my post: http://cleoclassical.blogspot.ca/2014/02/classics-club-spin-5-and-winner-is.html

Emma by Jane Austen. I read this in an Austen class in 2003 and I *hated* it. I hope to enjoy it this time around. Emma annoys the crap outta me!

Yes, she is annoying, but Mr Knightley is probably my favourite Austen hero – mmmmmmmmm 🙂

I agree with Brona entirely. Mr. Knightly is fantastic! (And at least Emma “learns her lesson” by the end.)

You might find it interesting to watch the movie “Clueless” before you read Emma. I found that watching it helped me see the humor more clearly in Emma.

Good idea! I watched that film back in high school, but that was prior to learning it was based off Emma.

A. E. Waite’s “The Holy Grail.” Which I don’t have a copy of lined up yet. But that should be manageable. Oddly, I just read something about Waite last night! Must be fate.

Number 20 is. . . . The Blind Assasin. Which I picked up three months ago and got about 25 pages into before I put it down again and didn’t pick it back up. . . so I guess I’m hesitant, but willing to give it another shot!
