Persuasion is BRILLIANT, my favorite by Jane Austen (well, tied with Pride & Prejudice). If you’ve liked her other books I think you’ll like it. Anne Elliot is a great heroine. It’s just great — and fairly short!

My #10 is Brazilian Adventure by Peter Fleming – a 1933 travel memoir where the author goes on an expedition to the interior of Brazil, looking for a long-lost English explorer. Just found out that the author was the older brother of Ian Fleming! This one was in my “neutral” category, but to be honest, I think I just ran out of “neutral” books from my list and threw this one in that category because I couldn’t remember what it was about off the top of my head. Now that I’ve refreshed my memory, I’m quite excited about it. 🙂

My #10 is The Talisman by Sir Walter Scott – I have to say that I’m not really looking forward to it as I did try to read it about 40 years ago. and gave up. I’m hoping that I was just too young for it at that time.

Initial relief that it wasn’t no 7 (Ulysses!) but no 10 is still a doozy for me – The Brothers Karamazov by Fyodor Dostoyevsky!!
But at least I’m sharing the Dostoyevsky reading experience with with Bree @The Things We Read 🙂

Well, I’m happy and disappointed at the same time. I’ll be reading Bleak House by Charles Dickens. I’m happy because it is next up for me after David Copperfield (so I’m not really having to fit an extra book into my plans) but, on the other hand, I was hoping to get one of the ones that I need a little push to read.
Oh well, next time!

Mine is Dubliners, which is a re-read for me (some of the books on my list are books I read as assigned reading in school and want to revisit on my own terms). I’m looking forward to it!

That one is on my Classics list overall, though I didn’t submit it for the spin. It’s the only James Joyce I’ve ever been interested in reading.

My Spin Choice is from my dread list…Go Down, Moses by William Faulkner. It’s seven interrelated stories set in Yokhnapatawpha County (almost got it right on the first try!). I am very excited, but a little nervous because Faulkner can really get you twisted around. Funnily enough, if I had gone with my initial list, I STILL would have been reading Faulkner–A Light in August though.

I remember liking A Light in August – I haven’t read Go Down, Moses. Good luck! I like Faulkner but you’re right that you can get a little lost in his prose, as marvelous as his prose can be.

I’m going to read The Tenant of Wildfell Hall. It is on my “I dread it” list, because I am not a big fan of the Bronte sisters’s books. But maybe I’ll be pleasantly surprised.

My classic book to be read is Cranford. It will be my first Gaskell; also, it’s a fairly short book.

Gaskell is wonderful! Wives and Daughters is lovely, also North and South. I found Cranford a bit scattered sometimes, but overall I really liked it.

I also have North and South at home and part of me wishes I could have started the Gaskell journey with this one, but alas, it wouldn’t be the proper spin with the element of randomness and me not having a say in the choice of the book 🙂

I really liked Cranford. As Karen mentioned, don’t expect a plot that really goes anywhere, but if you can just enjoy the stories of village life, it is a delightful book. And it is short. That’s always a plus!

Great! I got The Earth by Emile Zola. It’s on the long side, but it’s Zola, and I normally love his work. This will be my third Zola this year, so that’s a good thing. I look forward to reading it!

Yay! My #10 is The House of Mirth! I wanted to read this one this year and wasn’t sure how I was going to fit it in. So it’s a perfect number for me. 😀 How are you feeling about The Illiad?
