Click for details about the Spin.

All right, clubbers! Back in early February, we announced The Classics Club Spin, challenging you to read Book #14 on your spin list by April 1. Today is April 1, and this is not an April Fool’s joke! 🙂

Did you read your book? Did you write about it, or will you?

What was your book, and what did you think? Share below. Feel free to link to your post below, as and when you write about your book. 🙂

As always, the prize is the reading experience. Details here.

  1. I can’t believe I forgot to stop by. *face palm* Yes, I did finish Cold Comfort Farm and I really enjoyed it. However, I have not reviewed it yet. I’m so behind on everything. 😦 Still though, looking forward to the next spin. 🙂

  2. My spin book was On The Road by Jack Kerouac. I have not finished reading it. I can’t say I’m liking, I have to admit the book is boring me and I always end up falling asleep. I feel bad about this, I’m going to push through and I’ll write my thoughts as soon as I finish it.

  3. My spin number 14 landed me with Oliver Twist which I am still reading. As a matter of fact, I started only last week thinking I could finish by April 1.Alas! I hope to review it when I’m done and link it as usual.

Could we do it again as it urges us the lazy readers to be up and doing with the Classics?

  4. I have finished reading the ebook of The Kreutzer Sonata and I hate the main character so much. I haven’t written the review anyway, and since last week I just received my copy of The Death of Ivan Ilych and Other Stories (including The Kreutzer Sonata) I think I would reread it in the paperback copy and write a full review of the book. When, you ask? Well, some time in this year. 😀

  5. Proust’s Contre Sainte-Beuve was quite spectacular. I doubt I would have read it had it not been chosen in Classics Spin. The first time through it just seemed like a bunch of odd bits from his notebooks that were collected together after he died. Then, gradually I started seeing the patterns and connections and was quite stunned. I’ve started a series of posts on the book here: http://bit.ly/XjBuf4

  6. I finished “Tender Is The Night” by F. Scott Fitzgerald. It was great! Looking forward to starting “Their Eyes Were Watching God” on April 10th.

  7. I’ve made it, yayyy! My #14 is Just So Stories (hallelujah for that! For it’s a light children tales). Surprisingly, I was quite enjoying it, though I have never been a fan of children tales. Kipling can be so funny, yet smart in combining tales and scientific knowledge into his tales. And he added some songs and illustrations too. My complete review is here: http://klasikfanda.blogspot.com/2013/04/just-so-stories.html Thanks guys for the fun of Classics Spin, will we do that again sometime this year? 😀

  8. I finished my spin book, The Picture of Dorian Gray, but didn’t like it as much as I’d anticipated…. will write up my thoughts later this week. This was a great event – hope you’ll consider doing it again!

  9. I read The Secret Agent by Joseph Conrad for the spin and posted about it today:

I first read and enjoyed this book in college. This time around I have to say I appreciated it for its literary merit rather than truly enjoyed it, leading me to think that it’s a book that’s improved by a good class or group discussion. The spin was fun, though. I’d love to do it again in a few months!

  11. I am actually starting mine today. I took a break from reading classics for Lent. And focused on reading some Christian discipleship books. So I am late in reading my spin classic (Oliver Twist) but better late than never.

  12. Yes, I did! 😀 I was lucky enough to get a rather short book–The Picture of Dorian Gray by Oscar Wilde. I finished it on March 13, but I still haven’t written my review. 😦 But I truly hope I will be able to write it today or tomorrow… Anyway, this game was a fun and would like to play it with you any time again!

  13. I’m ashamed to say that I haven’t finished my book 😦 As an excuse I will say that it’s Middlemarch, which is 900 pages long (!) and that I’m planning to finish it some time soon. It was fun, anyway! 🙂

  14. Although I had slight problems acquiring a copy of my number 14 book, I did receive it and I did finish it (was around 500 pages). It was “Arrowsmith” by Sinclair Lewis. Having no knowledge whatsoever about this novel, it was a pleasant surprise – sharp, humorous, over the top characters and serious issues. I wrote a review in my blog yesterday:

  15. #14 on my list was “Narrative of the Life of Frederick Douglass”. I finished it early in March and absolutely loved it. What an intriguing story! I read the book in one sitting and was left wanting to know more. I want to read his last autobiography, “Life and Times of Frederick Douglass.”
