All right, clubbers! Back in early February, we announced The Classics Club Spin, challenging you to read Book #14 on your spin list by April 1. Today is April 1, and this is not an April Fool’s joke! 🙂
Did you read your book? Did you write about it, or will you?
What was your book, and what did you think? Share below. Feel free to link to your post below, as and when you write about your book. 🙂
As always, the prize is the reading experience. Details here.

I can’t believe I forgot to stop by. *face palm* Yes, I did finish Cold Comfort Farm and I really enjoyed it. However, I have not reviewed it yet. I’m so behind on everything. 😦 Still though, looking forward to the next spin. 🙂

Read the Spin book long back, but could only find time to blog about it today – http://madcaphat.wordpress.com/2013/04/08/at-tempting-madam-bovary/?postpost=v2#content…did not like Madame Bovary but the Spin was good way for to attempt something I had been denying to do for some time!

I finished my Spin book, On the Road. Review posted here. http://thebookstop.wordpress.com/2013/04/05/review-of-on-the-road-by-jack-kerouac/. I didn’t love the book but I’m glad I read it. The Spin was a good “push” for me to keep reading.

My spin book was The Ghosts of Sleath by James Herbert – I’m late posting my link but I did actually read this before April (just forgot to put it here!)

I finished mine last night! I read Oliver Twist. It was only 5 days late from the deadline. Not too bad considering I didn’t start til the 1st! 🙂

Sorry for the late response. I read and finished the book assigned, which was This Side of Paradise by Fitzgerald. Here’s my review:

I think the club conspires to make me read a modern author, quite out of my comfort zone. But it was a nice reading experience. Can’t wait for the next spin! 😀

My spin book was On The Road by Jack Kerouac. I have not finished reading it. I can’t say I’m liking, I have to admit the book is boring me and I always end up falling asleep. I feel bad about this, I’m going to push through and I’ll write my thoughts as soon as I finish it.

I made it just – one day to spare. My spin book was Farewell to Arms which didn’t thrill me much. Haven’t posted the review yet..

I have Sinclair Lewis on my CC list too. I think you might enjoy reading my spin book The Magnificent Ambersons. It’s also set in small town America at the turn of the century, following the changing fortunes of one family and how well (or not) they cope.

My spin number 14 landed me with Oliver Twist which I am still reading. As a matter of fact, I started only last week thinking I could finish by April 1.Alas! I hope to review it when I’m done and link it as usual.
Could we do it again as it urges us the lazy readers to be up and doing with the Classics?

I have finished reading the ebook of The Kreutzer Sonata and I hate the main character so much. I haven’t written the review anyway, and since last week I just received my copy of The Death of Ivan Ilych and Other Stories (including The Kreutzer Sonata) I think I would reread it in the paperback copy and write a full review of the book. When, you ask? Well, some time in this year. 😀

I got a little lucky. My spin pick is The Red Badge of Courage. It’s too slim for it to become a reading management threat, but I quite enjoyed it nevertheless. http://bookrhapsody.wordpress.com/2013/03/06/what-makes-a-man-the-red-badge-of-courage-by-stephen-crane/

Proust’s Contre Sainte-Beuve was quite spectacular. I doubt I would have read it had it not been chosen in Classics Spin. The first time through it just seemed like a bunch of odd bits from his notebooks that were collected together after he died. Then, gradually I started seeing the patterns and connections and was quite stunned. I’ve started a series of posts on the book here: http://bit.ly/XjBuf4

I’ve made it, yayyy! My #14 is Just So Stories (hallelujah for that! For it’s a light children tales). Surprisingly, I was quite enjoying it, though I have never been a fan of children tales. Kipling can be so funny, yet smart in combining tales and scientific knowledge into his tales. And he added some songs and illustrations too. My complete review is here: http://klasikfanda.blogspot.com/2013/04/just-so-stories.html Thanks guys for the fun of Classics Spin, will we do that again sometime this year? 😀

I first read and enjoyed this book in college. This time around I have to say I appreciated it for its literary merit rather than truly enjoyed it, leading me to think that it’s a book that’s improved by a good class or group discussion. The spin was fun, though. I’d love to do it again in a few months!

I am actually starting mine today. I took a break from reading classics for Lent. And focused on reading some Christian discipleship books. So I am late in reading my spin classic (Oliver Twist) but better late than never.

Although I had slight problems acquiring a copy of my number 14 book, I did receive it and I did finish it (was around 500 pages). It was “Arrowsmith” by Sinclair Lewis. Having no knowledge whatsoever about this novel, it was a pleasant surprise – sharp, humorous, over the top characters and serious issues. I wrote a review in my blog yesterday:
