An Important Note for all Members:

Hello everyone. Allie here to talk to you about a few things going on behind the scenes of the blog.

First, I want to let you know that the moderators have been a little scatter-brained the last month or so. Some of us have started grad school, others are balancing new work commitments, and personally, I am tackling my first year as a teacher. Needless to say, we have all been stressed out in our personal lives. As we tackle things that come up, our priorities shift and change. If it takes a couple days for someone to respond, please just bear with us and keep in my mind that there is a lot going on. I do imagine things to be calming down for most of us, so you should see us out and about a bit more. 🙂

Second…I have a piece of sad news to share with you all. For those who have not ventured to Jillian’s blog, you may have missed her post about choosing a path to continue on. Sadly, Jillian has decided to move on from her presence on her blog and here at the Club as a moderator. There are other passions in her life that are calling to her. She wrote to the moderators a few days ago to let us know she was stepping back to pursue other things and move forward. While we are all deeply saddened by her departure, we all know that this was the right decision for Jillian.

And I know that personally, I am very sad to see her go. There will be a huge hole in my own blogging life because she is no longer there, and I know many of you will feel the same way. We can all hope that she will return at some point in the future-with her infectious enthusiasm and heart.

In the meantime, the remaining moderators (Adam, Melissa, Sarah, Heather, and myself) will be continuing on behind the scenes. We want to assure all of you that we are dedicated to the Club and everything that Jillian started. She brought hundreds of us together and has inspired us, so we want to carry on in her name.

Please let us know if you have any questions or concerns. We look forward to continuing on this journey of classics with each and every one of you!

Allie

  3. I literally choked up when I read Jillian was leaving. I am so sad to see her go, the person responsible for bringing all of us together. We love you, Jillian! Good luck with your future endeavors.

  4. I’m feeling very grateful for Jillian coming up with the idea of The Classics Club (and for the remaining moderators who are putting their precious time into it :-))… while her choice to take another path is something we should all respect, I’ll definitely miss her on her blog and Twitter. Hope to see you again soon, Jillian!

  5. Oh, I’m sad to hear that Jillian is stepping away, but I hope she is moving in a direction that makes her happy. Thank you, Jillian for all the work you have done here! And thank you to the moderators for keeping this site going.

  6. Oh, Lord. This is the worst part of long term blogging – seeing those who were blogging long before you, the blog who you’ve grown to love, disappear. I’m truly happy that Jillian is moving forward, and I do wish her joy, happiness, and productivity in her chosen area, but as well, I’m so damn sad at this. But, she’s a human above all else, and not just a blogger! I’ll miss her sparkle, and I’ll hope one day she’ll emerge “in full glitter” (to quote Ted Hughes) once more. She’s a very gifted writer, very sharp, intelligent, and so very very inspiring. She’ll go far. I’ll be reviewing her books one day, I know it! To echo Heather, I can’t imagine the book blogland without her, I really can’t, but I bet she is or will be soon working on something remarkable.

  7. Ah, Jillian, bright soul. I’m so sad that she leaves, but I understand that there are more things in heaven and earth that we can choose to pursue, and Jillian has found that something she needs to do. I’m very grateful that you guys stay and continue the club. Please tell me if there’s anything I can help you guys with.

  8. I’m terribly sorry to hear of Jillian’s departure, but I understand her need to move on. I don’t know if she’ll see this, but– best wishes in all your future endeavors, Jillian! If you ever decide to come back and blog again, you’ll be welcomed with open arms! We are all indebted to you for bringing the Classics Clubbers together and inspiring so many people to blog about books. Thank you, thank you!

  9. This is so much of a sad news for me. Jillian inspired me a lot with her writing and enthusiasm. I know the book blogging community has lost a gem. But then we must respect her wishes and pray for the best for her. I believe also that Jillian left the Club in very capable and dedicated hands. 🙂

  10. It’s very hard for me to imagine the blogging community without Jillian as a member. I also hope that even if she decides not to pursue blogging again, that she might show up from time to time to let us know how she is doing. She’ll definitely be missed around here.

Thank you for posting this, Allie.
