Welcome to The Classics Club Blog!

Welcome to the new site for The Classics Club!

This place has been a work in progress for the last couple of months. You might recall that a couple of months ago, there was a conversation on Jillian’s blog about transferring the Club to a new location. It wasn’t that Jillian wanted to get rid of us, but more that the Club has been growing and new ideas and plans have fallen into place! Since that conversation, a team of bloggers has been working hard to get this site up and running. In the last few days, LOTS has been going on around here to bring you all a new home for The Classics Club. We’re all very excited about some of the new things going on, and we hope you’ll be just as excited.
To kick off this welcome post, it might be helpful to introduce you to the moderators of the site. There are six of us, all volunteers, who have come together to get the place up and running. We are:

Allie from A Literary Odyssey (I’m the one writing this post!)

Jillian from A Room of One’s Own

Adam from Roof Beam Reader

Melissa from An Avid Reader’s Musings

Sarah from Sarah Reads Too Much

Heather from Between the Covers

You can learn more about us at the About Page.

You’ll hear from each of us at some point on this journey in The Classics Club.

I’m going to give you a brief orientation to where things are located on the new site, as well as introducing you to some of the new features we are launching right alongside the site. Then, I will turn you loose to read, comment, and discover!

Locations of Key Items:

First up, we have transferred over all of the information Jillian had stored on her blog. This includes the Member List! On the Member List, you will find all current members of the club in alphabetical order (by blog name), as well as a link to their blog, their Classics Club Book List, and their goal date! Transferring all of this information took some time. If we missed you, please let us know! It would also be a great help if you would make sure your links were up-to-date and working.

We also made sure to put up information About the Club, a place to contact us, as well as information about Joining the Club. You’ll find some answers to some frequently asked questions as well. We also started a really big Book List with titles and authors found on Clubbers’ lists. We know we don’t have all the titles you folks are reading on there, so make sure to visit the page and suggest those we left off!

Another great piece to the site is the new Reviews by Members page. Here, you can find all the reviews our members have submitted for the club! Haven’t submitted any reviews? There is a form for that right on the page. From now on, when you finish a title, send us the information by filling out the form and we’ll post a link for your review on the Reviews by Members page as well as in a Weekly Round-up Post (more on that in a bit).

New Things to the Site

In addition to transferring over a lot of information from Jillian’s blog, there has been a lot of work going on to bring you new aspects of The Classics Club. We hope that you’ll come to love these new interactive features of The Classics Club as much as we do.

Weekly Round-up Posts

Once a week, a post will go up with information to all Club members about what happened the week prior. These posts will include information about new members, upcoming events and readalongs, links to our features, and links to the posts that members submitted that week! It is our hope that this weekly post will help keep you informed and motivated as you tackle your Classics Club list.

Monthly Meme

The new Monthly Meme feature will go up on the second of each month as a way to get you more involved in The Classics Club community. On the 2nd of each month (starting tomorrow), a post will go up here with a linky. Write a short post at your blog at some point during the month, link it up, and visit other Clubbers to get their perspective on the question! You can also submit your own ideas for future topics on the main page for the feature.

Featured Post of the Month

Every month, we would love it if you would recommend your favorite posts by your fellow Clubbers so we can highlight one post as our Featured Post of the Month! After posts are recommended, the moderators will select a post to be featured on the 25th of each month. This will allow us all to see some great reactions to some phenomenal literature. Have a post you want to nominate? Fill out this form to do so!

Featured Classics Clubber of the Month

In addition to featuring fabulous posts, we also want to feature you as our Classics Clubber of the Month! Each month, we will accept nominations from you for your fellow Clubbers to be featured. Once a blogger has been selected, they’ll have a post devoted to them on the main site, including a small interview, links to some of their posts, and more! The Classics Clubber of the Month will go up on the 10th of each month. Already know of a person to nominate? Fill out this form.

Events and Readalongs

The Classics Club is also stepping up our game to help you read those tough titles and wordy authors by sponsoring and promoting great Classics themed events and readalongs. You can visit our Events Page for information about all the great things coming up, as well as volunteering to host a readalong of your own!

Group Check-Ins

Every two months, Jillian will be continuing the tradition she started at her blog for Group Check-Ins. For these posts, going on up on the 15th of every other month (starting in September), you can see how your fellow Clubbers are doing with their own goals and book lists. It’s a great opportunity to get motivated to read those titles that have been languishing on your shelves!

Goodreads and Twitter Accounts

Some of you already know that The Classics Club is a group on Goodreads. If not and you’re on the site, make sure to join for some great discussion! We also created a new twitter account for the site: @ourclassicsclub and the official hashtag is #theclassicsclub. Be sure to add us at some point in the future!

I think that’s everything you need to know about the new site. Please explore, comment, and give us feedback on what you see. If there is anything you would like to see added, or if you have an idea, please make sure to contact the moderators by e-mailing the Club’s account (theclassicsclubblog@gmail.com).

Thank you all and ENJOY!

  1. I am absolutely blown away by all of this! It is really amazing what you are all doing. I joined the Classics Club so I could just try and force myself to read books that I often struggle with. You have made this project so interesting and have brought together a whole bunch of people that just love to read. I look forward to getting more involved with all aspects of the club and will try my hardest to push up my numbers up…1 book isn’t anything to shout about. 🙂

  2. Such a lovely effort!…thank you so much! I’m really looking forward to interacting with folk around year and getting a bit more active than I’ve been. This is definitely motivation enough!1 😀

  3. Wow, you guys have really put in a lot of hard work already! It looks great. I love the idea of the weekly round-up; that will make it a lot easier to keep track of goings-on.

  4. You guys have put so much work into this! I’m so impressed. I love how everything is organized! It really sounds like such a fun thing to be involved with – it encourages me to kick my own organization into gear! Well done!

  5. Congrats to the six of you guys, this is fabulous! The website is very neat and well organized. I’m amazed by your dedication to The Classics Club (especially considering that this would be a 5 years project). Thanks a lot.. 🙂

  6. I’m in awe at how wonderful this is and all the work it must have taken. Great job! Thank you all for taking the time to put all this together, it’s amazing and I can’t wait to get more involved with this.

  7. This. Is. Amazing. I can’t imagine how much work and coordination this took. You guys are awesome. Thanks so much for all of this. I’m in the process of making my list now, and I will probably join up this weekend.

I really can’t commend you moderators enough for all of this!

    1. Lots of work. Lots of coordination! But we do have a great, passionate, eager team – so it’s been awesome thus far. I hope all the Clubbers find something they like and can make this place a “Second Home” for their own Classics journeys!

  8. I want to say a big thank you to you wonderful Moderators, Allie, Adam, Jillian, Heather, Sarah and Melissa for taking time off your busy shcedules to create and manage this site for us all. You’ve done an amazing and beautiful job. Many hugs!

    1. You’re very welcome! It was (and will continue to be) a big project, but it’s completely worth it!
